Almost three years ago, I was walking by a football field in Ubud, Bali, when I saw some people throwing a disc. It looked fun, so I approached them to see if I could join. Not only did they let me play. They taught me how to throw and where to run and were as welcoming as the ultimate community has been ever since. I’ve now reached 500 hours of practice, and ultimate has become a big part of my life.

This article will explore some of the lessons I learned while playing ultimate frisbee. Many of the principles can be applied to any other skill you are learning. A useful thing to ask yourself while reading is; how does this apply to my situation and life? By picking up bits and pieces from various people, you can create your optimal way of learning and become a self-made master at improving any skill.

The benefit of hearing about other people’s experience is that it can give you ideas you hadn’t thought of or give you…
